Collaborating with the Faith Community to Feed Dallas

More than 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 4 children in Dallas County are food insecure and at risk of hunger. These statistics represent thousands of individuals who struggle each day to acquire enough food to get by. This is both unacceptable and unnecessary.

The faith community already plays a major role in improving food security in our city. Each congregation can take additional steps to ensure that children, families, and seniors have the nutritious food they need to flourish.

Helping Congregations to Support Communities

The Faith Community Hunger Solutions Action Team is working to accomplish its goal in a variety of ways. In 2014, interfaith organizations and congregations came together to pilot the Family Garden Demonstration Project, a local effort to address food insecurity among low-income families around Dallas. A report and evaluation of this early collaboration is available at Family Garden Demonstration Project.

Hunger Solutions for the Faith Community

The team has developed a Hunger Solutions for the Faith Community guide. In this guide are tested, effective solutions to the problem of hunger that your congregation can implement. These solutions take advantage of existing programs and resources in the community and can each have a substantial impact on hunger.

Bringing Anti-Hunger Organizations Together

We’re working with our Coalition partner, SouperBowl of Caring, to identify food pantries,  promote collaboration and coordination and better meet the needs of the community. Find food assistance, opportunities to volunteer, or donate resources to a local food relief organization at the TACKLE HUNGER MAP
